A 55-inch roller track

That's the stated length of the SL-track. The longer it runs, the further the rollers keep going past your lower back, down under the seat.

Why it made our list

What changes in your evenings

4D rollers. On top of 3D depth control, the rollers vary their speed and rhythm as they work.

55-inch SL-track. The rollers follow your spine and keep going under the seat, over 55 inches of track.

Zero-gravity recline. Lean back until your legs rise to about the level of your heart, then let the program run.

Living room or bedroom?

In the living room, zero gravity tips it a long way back, so it wants the open floor a lounge usually has.

In the bedroom, the heat makes it a warm wind-down before bed. Voice control means no hunting for the remote with the lights off.

On paper it leans toward the bedroom.

Great for you if…

You like a roller massage that changes pace instead of repeating one stroke
You carry tension low down and want the rollers to reach your hips and glutes
You want to lie back with your legs raised after a long day

Skip it if…

You want foot rollers: they aren't mentioned in this listing
You simply want our top pick: that's the RELX Body Scan Massage Chair (9.2/10)

Living with it

Delivery day

The listing gives no weight for the MassaMAX MT398 4D Massage Chair, so ask before delivery day and line up a second pair of hands. Check the manual for how much assembly is left to you.

Finding its spot

Zero gravity needs depth. Measure the full recline and the gap behind the backrest before it arrives. Our fit planner checks it in a minute.

Your evenings

Lean back into zero gravity, let the heat warm your back and change programs by voice.

What MassaMAX promises

The seller states, word for word, in the MassaMAX MT398 4D Massage Chair listing:

The deep-cushioned structure offers an immersive, full-body wrapping sensation that hugs you in complete relaxation from head to toe.
Press and hold the button for 3 seconds to lock or unlock the touchscreen controller.

Their words and their figures, not our measurements. How the massage feels is something no listing can tell you.

What buyers say

Buyers give it 4.5/5, a strong record, right on this ranking's 4.5 average. 120 reviews is a fair sample, enough for the average to mean something.

The one thing we'd check first

If we were buying the MassaMAX MT398 4D Massage Chair, we'd check the full-recline depth first: zero gravity tips it a long way back, so measure the floor behind it and the gap to the wall.

Before you buy

Your room

Measure the full-recline depth and the gap to the wall. Our fit planner runs the check in a minute.

Your body

Confirm the user height range and the weight limit with the seller or in the manual, for everyone who will use the chair.

Delivery

Measure doorways, stairs and turns, and check whether delivery stops at the curb or comes into the room.

Warranty

Ask what the warranty covers (frame, motors, upholstery), for how long, and who handles repairs.
